Is this guy serious?
Um hi Heritage Foundation and other people, this quote is seriously taken out of context.
His actual quote:
“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business - you didn’t build that.”
He wasn’t saying that if you owned a business, you didn’t build it. He’s saying that if you owned a business, you didn’t build all of the infrastructure such as roads that help your business to thrive. Like damn, reading comprehension please?
Actually, you need to learn proper grammar comprehension. When you use a genderless pronoun it is always a replacement for the closest previous noun unless there is some other clarification in the sentence. So by basic grammar logic ‘that,’ in President Obama’s sentence, is referring to ‘business.’
