If you’re not a terrorist, if you’re not a threat, prove it… This is the price you pay to live in free society right now. It’s just the way it is.
“Look, I just have to search the inside of your mouth for explosives… with my tongue.”

So says Peter W. Singer at the Brookings Institute:
About 31,300. That is roughly the number of magazine and journal articles written so far that discuss the phenomenon of cyber terrorism.
Zero. That is the number of people that who been hurt or killed by cyber terrorism at the time this went to press.
In many ways, cyber terrorism is like the Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week,” when we obsess about shark attacks despite the fact that you are roughly 15,000 times more likely to be hurt or killed in an accident involving a toilet. But by looking at how terror groups actually use the Internet, rather than fixating on nightmare scenarios, we can properly prioritize and focus our efforts.

In an absurd case of government paranoia, officials in Prince George’s County have decided to install security cameras that will have the main purpose of keeping an eye on already existing red light and speed cameras.
As the Huffington Post points out, the reason for the camera-watching cameras is to crack down on camera vandalism. Six speed cameras have been vandalized since April. One was burned and one was shot.
The police chief explains that it costs taxpayers anywhere from $30,000 to $100,000 to replace the cameras, a significant burden no doubt. But perhaps the should take the hint that the community isn’t a fan of these cameras and not replace them.
The crack down involves adding around a dozen more cameras to watch the cameras in order to keep the cameras from getting vandalized. Boy was that a mouth full.
If only the city officials would just realize the favor the vandals are doing for them. After all, traffic cameras are largely useless and sometimes dangerous.
Besides, won’t the vandals just start taking out the camera-watching cameras before they attack the traffic cameras? Then will they need to install cameras to watch the camera-watching cameras? What happens when those get destroyed?
